Affirmative action is the program which occurs in some workplaces that grants preferences in hiring, promoting, or training employees based on their gender, race, or ethnicity. Often times, affirmative action is implemented into a workplace after the occurrence of discrimination on the past or if it is required to do so by state and/or federal law.

Problems With Affirmative Action in Minnesota

While affirmative action programs may be placed in order to prevent discrimination and favoritism, the opposite may occur. For example, employers may manipulate test scores in order for a certain demographic to receive, or not receive, promotions. Another problem may occur if your employer is comparing is comparing test score of a minority group to another minority group, instead of white or male employees.

Both instances are protected by the federal Civil Rights Act of 1991, and any manipulation of test scores is illegal unless it has been mandated by a court or law.
