Equal Employment EEOC

The Equal Employment Opportunity Laws include:

  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This law prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, sex, or national origin.
  • The Equal Pay Act of 1963. This law protects men and women from sex based wage discrimination.
  • The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967. This law protects employees who are age forty and older.
  • Title I and V of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This act prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in the private sector and state and local governments.
  • Sections 501 and 505 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. These laws prohibit discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities in the federal government.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1991. This law provides monetary damages in cases of international employment discrimination.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) enforces these laws and also oversees the coordination of these regulations.

While the EEOC acts as a major source of anti-discrimination laws, there are also several federal laws which prohibit discrimination against employees. They include the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978 as well as a number of other laws. These anti-discrimination laws are in place to prevent the discrimination of employees or applicants due to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability.

If you have been discriminated against in the work place for any of these reasons, or another discriminatory reason, you should consider acquiring legal help.
