Pregnancy Discrimination

Pregnancy discrimination is illegal under the Equal Employment Opportunity Law Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This includes the discrimination of a woman based on her pregnancy, child birth, and more.

Pregnancy and Employment

It is illegal for an employer to refuse hiring a pregnant woman due to her pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition. A pregnant woman who is unable to work for any amount of time must be treated as any other temporarily disabled employee and pregnancy may not prevent them from receiving benefits.

If a woman encounters pregnancy problems, pregnancy related absence, or needs to take maternity leave the employer must hold the job for the same amount of time as they would for employees on sick or disability leave.

More Information About Pregnancy Discrimination

Pregnancy discrimination can occur in both the hiring process or at a current place of employment. In any case, it is illegal and requires legal attention so that you and your baby can receive the benefits you deserve.
